Alto Sewing Machine Concept
Designer: Sarah Dickins
Sewing is an art but behind it lays a mechanism that is extremely complex. If you have experience, you will know what I mean. The needle and the threads are complex enough to make you go nuts!
However, Sarah Dickins had something else in her mind and she gave us this amazing concept sewing machine, which will allow even a person like me – who never dared to be within a 1000 miles of a sewing machine – sew like a pro. No, no! Don't worry; I am not going to try it anyway! It is better that you read about this concept design in designer's own words!
"To simplify threading, a metal guide runs from reel to needle for the user to follow. Speed is controlled by pressing with the fingers through the fabric and the patented force sensor technology in a rubber foot underneath the machine allows the beginner to control speed from whichever hand position they find most comfortable. A flexible drive shaft replaces the traditional pulley system to form Alto's distinctive arch, increasing room for the fabric and improving visibility of the sewing area."
