Synergise: Wheelchair Add-On

Wheelchairs don't need to be boring. The retro-fittable Synergise is an add-on that can be added to just any wheelchair, allowing efficient and effective navigation. Similar to brakes on cycles, this add-on will have a ratchet system, which can be used to reduce friction and increase efficiency when negotiating angled surfaces. This will ensure that RSI is reduced.

RSI stands for Repetitive Strain Injury. Don't ask for the meaning because this isn't a medical work. Google and find but still, it is pretty straightforward to be understood. Back to Synergise, the ratchet system comes with a two-way mechanism. The system has a wheel with cut out teeth. When the wheel turns, the pawl (also a part of the ratchet system) follows. It will go only in the direction of the side on which the pawl is placed. Lifting the pawl and placing another pawl on the other side of the chair will make the shaft go in other direction.

The handlebar comes with a shifter to which are attached the pawl lifter cables. Each shifter or lever comes with independent control giving the user unlimited freedom to move forward or backward or even spot rotation. The shaft comes with a dynamometer ropes attachment with the shaft being attached to the main cog. It is the frictional brake for the Synergise system. The wheel chair is slowed down with control using a metal strip that touches the grooved spool where it is placed. The contact between the metal strip and the spool takes places when the user pulls brake lever causing the cable to pull the strip. This is an amazing tool for stress reduction as well as cornering and going across any cambered surface. Braking is always the biggest advantage.
