Google DroidBook Nexus Laptop Concept

As competition heats up to dethrone iPad, Google could just be engineering its moves as well. Contrary to popular belief, the cross hair may not be on iPad, but rather Apple's range of laptops.

It is not unfathomable to imagine Google may have started work with hardware partners to deliver a killer punch on a market sector that they believe they have better chance to erode Apple's popularity, thus profitability. This scenario was put together by creator Bob Freking, when his latest work, the Google DroidBook Nexus, was unveiled. I have seen the graphic illustration, and I must say it is pretty! Market has since been abuzz with speculations that the new generation Android will tackle the netbooks market, and possibly go after bigger devices as well.

Bob Freking's theory goes this way: since the Motorola acquisition, Google has decided to kill off Lapdocks for the Moto phones, thus the natural assumption being that Google may soon be rolling out desktops with Android, or possibly even their own laptops. The creation from Freking features a front camera with 3 MP HD, employs a Core i7 CPU with Intel Integrated Graphics (I really thought Google could do with a better mix) and of course a huge display of 17 inch 2560 x 1440 pixels. The novelty is a design that's slimmer than a MacBook while featuring full keyboard.

The battery time is expected to last 12 hours and it will have an optical drive, just in case… Popular Windows-based apps and games will run with Android through a conversion app. So the ubiquitous Photoshop will function as per normal and you can still enjoy your Resident Evil 6, Final Fantasy, Crysis and Minecraft. Freking did not exactly pin down the OS for his DroidBook so I take the liberty to assume it will be a cross between Android 5.0 and Chrome OS, or some really hot new stuff! If the marketing and pricing folks get it right, it is game on…
